Commissioners Approve “Vision 2050” Comprehensive Plan

Commissioners Approve “Vision 2050” Comprehensive Plan

PAINESVILLE, Ohio, September 29, 2026 – The Lake County Board of Commissioners are proud to announce that, at their September 29 meeting, they adopted “Lake County, Ohio: Vision 2050,” a comprehensive and forward‑looking plan designed to guide responsible growth, development, and environmental preservation across the county through the year 2050. This marks the first comprehensive plan adopted by Lake County in more than 65 years.

“Vision 2050” addresses the many changes and challenges Lake County is expected to face over the next 25 years. The plan provides practical tools and strategic guidance for future decision-making. Areas of focus include economic development, agriculture, housing, land use, transportation, parks and recreation, education, natural resources, Lake Erie, the Grand River, the Chagrin River, and other important environmental elements.

The plan goes well beyond traditional land use and zoning considerations. It incorporates issues such as an aging population, housing needs, infrastructure upgrades, agricultural protections, and environmental stewardship, including the preservation of Lake Erie, the Mentor Marsh, the Grand River, and the Chagrin River.

The Lake County Commissioners and the Lake County Planning Commission collaborated to develop this long-term vision to help unite Lake County’s 23 communities. Lake County’s landscape, ranging from post–World War II housing to rural farmland and wineries, presents unique opportunities and challenges. “Vision 2050” embraces this diversity and emphasizes coordinated planning rather than prescribing a single approach for all communities. Please click here to read the entire press release.
