Lake County Commissioners Partner with United Way to Support Local Food Pantries Amid Potential SNAP Suspension

PAINESVILLE, Ohio, October 31, 2025– The Lake County Board of Commissioners approved a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) agreement with the United Way of Lake County to provide emergency funding to assist local food pantries. This proactive measure comes in response to the potential suspension of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which currently supports 17,141 Lake County residents, including 6,200 children and 2,510 seniors.

“Our Board acted swiftly to ensure no family in Lake County goes hungry during this period of uncertainty,” said Richard J. Regovich, President of the Board of Commissioners. “We are grateful for the United Way’s partnership and for the commitment of our local food pantries that serve our residents with compassion every day.”

The United Way of Lake County will collaborate with food pantries and community organizations across the county to distribute resources where they are needed most, providing critical assistance to households affected by the potential SNAP disruption.

“Lake County has always been a community that looks out for one another,” said Commissioner John T. Plecnik. “This partnership reflects our shared belief that every resident deserves access to nutritious food and the peace of mind that comes with a secure meal.”

Residents seeking food assistance are encouraged to contact 211 for information on available food pantries and community meal programs. Community members and local businesses are also encouraged to join in the effort to keep Lake County’s food shelves full.

Donations can be dropped off at the United Way of Lake County, located at 9285 Progress Blvd., Mentor, Ohio, during the following hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

“This is a moment for all of us to come together and lend a hand,” said Commissioner Morris W. Beverage III. “Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, we can ensure that our neighbors and friends continue to have access to the food and support they need.”

Those interested in contributing or volunteering can contact David Whittaker at United Way of Lake County via email at [email protected] or by phone at 440-639-1203.
