LAKE COUNTY ROADWAY SWALE POLICY

Lake County Engineer’s Office current policy on maintaining existing road drainage swales paralleling county highway system roadways shall be performed by the Lake County Road Department to properly convey roadway surface runoff and subsurface stone base drainage laterally to the swale line for preservation of the roadway asset.

When private drive access is permitted by this office, a piped crossing when applicable will be approved within the permit to convey swale drainage along the roadway.  The Right-of-Way Usage permit is found at this link: Right-of-Way Usage Permit must be completed and approved prior to commencement of work.

Drive pipes typically do not exceed 30’ for residential applications or 40’ for commercial. Drive pipe length extensions beyond these limits are not allowed.   Roadway swales may not be altered by the parcel owner without an approved permit.
