Road Construction Updates

Construction

Information on local projects.

Madison Avenue Closure

Madison Avenue at the intersection with Woodworth Avenue in Painesville Township will be closed until further notice. The local retaining wall has buckled leaving the ground and roadway behind it unstable. The public is being advised to stay out of the closed area of road. The sidewalk is open for pedestrians. A detour is posted for traffic to follow. Plans for a repair are in the process of being completed in coordination with contractors working to determine the best way to work within the limits of the unstable ground. The need to make repairs to the retaining wall and reopen Madison Avenue has been deemed an emergency by the Lake County Commissioners aiding our office in getting repairs performed as quickly as possible. Funding for the project is the next hurdle. We have Ohio Public Works Commission funding in place, and we have applied for Transportation Improvement District (TID) funding hoping to have at least half of the project construction cost paid by outside sources. Anticipated cost of construction is between two million and two and a half million dollars. If all goes well, we could begin construction of another new section of wall by this fall. Everyone’s patience is appreciated as we work through adding another project to our schedule.

MADISON AVENUE UPDATE: 9/09/2026

MADISON AVENUE SIDEWALK CLOSURE IN PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP

The sidewalk crossing along Madison Avenue at the intersection with Woodworth Avenue east to Virgina Drive in Painesville Township will now be closed along with the roadway until further notice. The Alan Stone Company, Inc., the contractor performing the retaining wall repairs, will need the entire right of way secured to safely perform the work. The work will begin on September 14th and continue as required.  The intent is to open the road no later than late spring 2027.

As a result, motorists and pedestrians, bicycles and all other devices will be restricted from crossing along Madison Avenue construction area and must follow the posted detour.  All should respect private property and not trespass to circumvent the closed work site.  The area will be monitored for violations of this notice.

This office appreciates everyone’s patience as we begin and move through this repair.
