Transportation to VA Medical Facilities

The Lake County Veterans Service Commission, in cooperation with the Lake County Commissioners and Laketran, provides free transportation for Lake County’s Veterans to VA medical facilities. This includes Louis Stokes VA Medical Center (Wade Park) in Cleveland, the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (COBC) at 35000 Kaiser Court in Willoughby, and the University Circle medical campus area – including the Cleveland Clinic main campus, the Cleveland Sight Center, University Hospital’s Medical Center, and the CWRU Dental School. You may also ride free to other medical appointments anywhere within Lake County’s borders for dialysis, adult day care, therapy, and so forth.

All Veterans will be required to register their dd 214 or report of Honorable separation with the Lake County Veterans Service Commission to receive free travel.

All arrangements for travel are made through Laketran.

General information

This is a door-to-door service. You will be picked up at home and dropped off at the hospital or clinic. Your trip may be combined with others. Your pickup and drop-off times may vary from your desired or preferred times. The bus may also make other stops while it takes you to your destination.

Who is eligible?

All Honorably Discharged Veterans who have been a resident of Lake County for at least 90 days, can use this service. If necessary, your spouse, companion, or aide may accompany you.

When can I ride?

The service operates Monday through Friday. Pickup may be as early as 6:00 AM. The last return from Cleveland is at 4:30 PM.

What is the cost?

Rides for Veterans and their spouse/aide going to VA medical facilities or other authorized medical locations are paid for by the Lake County Veterans Service Commission.

Are reservations needed?

Yes, you must call and reserve a trip. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I make a reservation?

Call us at 942-1300, 354-6100, 428-2460, or toll-free at 1-888-525-3872. You can call to make reservations Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. And 7:00 p.m. Please report any problems making reservations to the lake county veterans service commission by calling (440) 350-2904 as soon as possible.

When can I make a reservation?

As soon as you can, but no earlier than one week ahead of time. The latest you can attempt to make reservations is 7:00 PM. Two business days before you want to ride. Reservations for Monday must be requested by the prior Thursday. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wait until two days before your trip, you may not get a reservation.
