Caring for an older adult can be both rewarding and challenging. This page provides resources and support information for caregivers caring for older adults in Lake County. While some agencies may not be physically located in Lake County, all listed organizations provide services or support to Lake County residents and caregivers.


Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer’s Association 24/7 Helpline is a free service offering support for people living with dementia, caregivers, families and the public. Connect with a live person who can provide information, local resources, crisis assistance and emotional support. Contact the helpline at 1-800-272-3900.

Caregiver Action Network (CAN)

The Caregiver Action Network is a national nonprofit organization that provides free education, support, and resources to family caregivers. CAN serves caregivers of older adults, individuals with chronic illnesses or disabilities, children with special health needs, and wounded service members, helping families navigate the challenges of caregiving and improve quality of life.

Courage to Caregivers

Courage to Caregivers provides tools and encouragement to empower caregivers. Offered in a validating, nonjudgmental environment, their programs help you develop the inner strength to care for yourself so that you can better care for your loved ones. 

Offers individualized caregiver support and group coaching.

Family Pride of Northeast Ohio

Family Pride offers a 12 week support group series at the Fairport Senior Center.

Lake County Adult Protective Services

Adult Protective Services (APS) investigates reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving vulnerable adults age 60 and older who live in the community. Social workers assess each situation, ensure the individual’s safety and well-being, and connect older adults with appropriate services and supports. Lake County Council on Aging

The Lake County Council on Aging helps individuals connect with resources that allow them to remain safely and comfortably in their homes and communities. Call 440-205-8111 for more information.

Lake County Veteran Services

Lake County Veteran Services provides free assistance to veterans, their dependents, and survivors in accessing the federal, state, and local benefits. County Veterans Service Officers serve as advocates and liaisons, helping individuals understand available benefits, gather required documentation, complete applications, and navigate the process.

The office also offers temporary emergency financial assistance for eligible veterans facing urgent needs, including help with rent, utilities, food, and prescription costs, while connecting them to longer-term support services.

Ohio Aging Compass

The Ohio Aging Compass is a free online resource from the Ohio Department of Aging that helps older adults, caregivers, and families find aging-related services, programs, events, and long-term care information. The platform includes tools to compare nursing homes and assisted living facilities, locate community resources, and access data on aging trends across Ohio.

Ohio Long Term Care Ombudsman

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program provides free advocacy for individuals receiving long-term care services in nursing homes, assisted living communities, adult care homes, and private residences. Ombudsman staff and trained volunteers help resolve concerns, protect resident rights, provide information about benefits and care options, and assist individuals and families in navigating long-term care services.

Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging

The Family Caregiver Support program connects caregivers with a wide range of valuable resources focusing on the unpaid, informal caregiver. Each caregiver is paired with a Care Coordinator who works closely with them to identify and access resources that provide meaningful support.

When appropriate, Care Coordinators assist caregivers in developing and implementing a respite plan. Our services, including information, assistance, and care planning, are provided at no cost to anyone seeking help. Additionally, we offer referrals to other agencies and services to meet individual needs.
