WITTS 4-1-1

Grant Monies
The Justice Assistance Grant by the Office of Criminal Justice Services that the WITTS Program has been awarded over the past 8 years has, unfortunately, was not been awarded for the 2013 or 2014 year. The WITTS Program will be aplying for Grant Monies in 2015.

Big Brothers Big SistersThe WITTS program recruits the children of the inmates to join Big Brothers Big Sisters through Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree Program.  Big Brothers Big Sisters is your local mentoring organization that provides adult mentors to children 6 to 15 years old.   Prison Fellowship is the organization that works with prisons to arrange for incarcerated parents to recommend their children to receive a holiday gift through a local church.

A Big Brother Big Sister can:

  • Become an additional adult friend who reinforces what children are being taught at home.
  • Provides an additional encouragement and support because of the special challenges our youth face today.
  • Motivate children to achieve goals and make good choices..and have fun, too!

Girls Scouts of North East Ohio (GSNEO)

Due to the reorganization and restructure of the GSNEO the “Uniquely Me” program is temporarily suspended.  The program is in need of a coordinator for the Lake County area.

AfterCare

The aftercare group served as a safe, supportive environment for women returning to the community after a period of incarceration.  The aftercare program is temporarily suspended until funds are available for a re-entry coordinator.

 Highlights !!!!!!

“Blast” Groups were new to the program this year.  A blast group is one that meets for a 3-6 week period covering a variety of topics from various agencies and volunteers.  The group will meet to discover, share and learn the topic over a designated time period.  Topics and issues covered include Financial Literacy, Project Hope, Money Management, Anger Management, Assessing Yourself and Decision Making.  Many of these groups are repeated over time to capture the interest of the inmates as the population turns over.

The WIITS Progarm has partnered with the Covenant Outreach Through Advocay and Agency Networking( COTAAN).  Minister Kathryn Johnson is the program director for COTAAN.   The COTAAN is a prison after-care program for women and girls that provieds female ex-offenders with spiritual, emotional and educational assistance to help them reenter society as a productive citizen.

The WITTS Program continues to offer the female inmates a variety of programs such as Zumba, Yoga, Vision Boarding, Assessing Yourself, Domestic Violence, Women’s Support Group, Drug/Alcohol education and Parenting Skills in order to assist them with preaparing to reenter society better than when they first came to jail. The WITTS program will continue to serve the women of Lake County to assist them with a successful return back to their families and the community.
