The Board of County Commissioner meetings will be accessible to the public via the YouTube channel Board will continue to monitor state and federal public health guidance while evaluating the timing to reopen the meetings to the general public.


The Board of Lake County Commissioners has both quasi-legislative and quasi-administrative powers and through resolutions adopted during their regular weekly meeting, sets the administrative policy for county government. While the Commissioners have no power to initiate legislation, they do exercise powers granted to them by the Ohio General Assembly through state law.


The Commissioners are responsible for the appropriations of the county tax revenues through the adoption of the annual county budget. The County operates on a January 1 through December 31 fiscal year and must adopt the final budget no later than April 1 of each year. The budget includes appropriations for the numerous county offices, including those offices headed by other elected officials. The Commissioners have the power to levy taxes and to approve the placement of tax levies and bond issues on the ballot for consideration by county voters. The Commissioners also administer all federal grant monies.

The Commissioners hold title to all county owned property and are responsible for the upkeep. By law, they must provide office space for all county offices. They must build the facilities necessary to house various offices such as the Courtrooms, the Jail, Engineer's facilities and parking. The Commissioners award all contracts for purchase and construction projects.

    Lake County, Ohio residents wil soon begin to see much-needed improvements to roads under the jurisdiction of the Lake County Engineer. The Board approved an accelerated two and a half year road improvement program. To facilitate this aggressive program, the Board will consider bond financing strategies with existing revenues and a new $5 motor vehicle license fee.

    During the May 17, 2018 Commissioners Meeting the Board accepted an Above & Beyond Award from United Way of Lake County on behalf of all the citizens, businesses and organizations in Lake County because they all went above and beyone during this year's Feed Lake County Campaign. This year the campaign brought in 75,277 lbs of food and $40,000. This will provide 220,000 meals for residents in need. Jodi Matsko and Jean Sency from United Way of Lake County presented the award to the Commissioners.

    Out of over 350 students from 17 schools in Lake County, the Board of Lake County Commissioners presented the awards for this year's Clean & Green Poster Contest Winners during the April 26, 2018 Commissioners Meeting. Congratulations!

    The High School and Overall Winner is Leah Stone from North High School in Eastlake.

    The Elementary School Division Winner is Jade Omerza-Wells from Grant Elementary School in Willoughby.

    The Middle School Division Winner is Gianna Cesari from Ridge Middle School in Mentor.

    The Lake County Board of Commissioners proclaimed May 2018 Foster Parent Recognition Month in Lake County. There are 46 foster parents who have opened their hearts and their homes to children going through a very difficult time in their lives. Citizens are encouraged to demonstrate their respect and gratitude for foster parents who unselfishly share their lives and provide safe and loving homes for Lake Coiunty's children. A resolution was presented to Gene Tetrick, Supervisor of Lake County Job & Family Services Foster Care and Adoption Team.

    During the month of May, Lake County recognizes 58,000 senior residents who contribute so richly to our community and celebrates the many ways in which these older adults make a difference in our County. Mr. Joseph Tomsick, Chief Executive Director of the Lake County Council on Aging, and Ms. Chris Yano, Fairport Harbor Senior Center Director, were presented with a resolution Proclaming May 2018 Older Americans Month in Lake County, Ohio.

    During the April 26, 2018, Commissioners Meeting, Project Hope for the Homeless was celebrated on their 25th Anniversary. Project Hope Executive Director Judy Burr was presented with a certificate of appreication for their service to the community.  Project Hope for the Homeless was born and has grown from a temporary, seasonal shelter to a year-round program in a permanent, expanded location offering comprehensive programs that have made a tremendous impact to the lives of members in our community. Project Hope for the Homeless not only provides emergency shelter, but also care and guidance to individuals and families seeking independence, and they continue to expand in order to meet the County’s changing needs.

    The Lake County Board of Commissioners presented Dan Donaldson, Director of the Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District, with a resolution recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Ohio Scenic Rivers Act. On February 28, 1968, Ohio became a pioneer in the river preservation movement with the passage of the Ohio Scenic Rivers Act, the first scenic rivers act in the nation, which created a program to preserve and protect rivers throughout the State of Ohio.  In Lake County, the Grand River and Chagrin River were both designated as State Scenic Rivers in the 1970's.

    During the April 17, 2018 Commissioners Meeting the Board declared April 15 through May 31, 2018 Clean and Green Lake County. The Board encourages residents, businesses and civic organizations to identify areas in their neighborhoods in need of attention and to undertake clean-up activities. The Lake County Solid Waste District has scheduled an Electronics Collection on Saturday, April 28, a Scrap Tire Collection on Saturday, May 5, 2018, and a Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday, June 9, 2018, to assist residents with their clean-up efforts. Those accepting the resolution were Lisa Siciliano-Miller, Lake County OSU  Extension Director, and Tim Gourley, Lake County Solid Waste Management District Coordinator.
