Lake County, Ohio - Achieve



    ACHIEVE works with K-12 public schools in Lake County to foster policy and environmental change strategies that create improvements around physical activity and nutrition in our schools.

    • Royalview Elementary, Willoughby-Eastlake (1)
    • Longfellow Elementary, Willoughby-Eastlake (1)
    • St. Mary's, Cleveland Catholic Diocese (1)
    • Memorial Middle School, Mentor (1)

    In the fall of 2010, ACHIEVE provided $1,000 grants to the following schools in Lake County:

    • Chestnut Elementary, Painesville (2)
    • North High School, Willoughby-Eastlake (2)
    • Elm Street Elementary, Painesville (1)
    • Longfellow Elementary, Willoughby-Eastlake (1)
    • Ridge Middle, Mentor (1)
    • Leroy Elementary, Riverside (1)
    • Kirtland Middle, Kirtland (1)
    • Madison Avenue Elementary, Riverside (1)

    The above schools were funded to implement the following changes:

    •  Virtual hike across the United States.
    •  Student exposure to healthy food tasting.
    • Student exposure to one mile marked indoor and outdoor course on campus.
    • Staff and student involvement with bike to school days.
    • Salad shakers and baked potato served at lunch.
    • Recess before lunch.
    • Dancing classrooms.
    • Healthy cooking labs while studying effects of calories, fats, sugars, and physical activity.
    • School greenhouse, gardens.
    • After-school sessions of zumba, pilates, yoga, and karate for students, parents, and grandparents.
    • Marathon club.

    Participating schools need to report how the money is utilized and schedule a site visit during the year they are funded with the ACHIEVE committee.
