Guardianship Training

DATES AND TIMES OF COURSES OFFERED

RULE 66.06. Guardian Pre-Appointment Education:Court appointed guardians are required to take a one-time six-hour course on the fundamentals of guardianship.  If you are a guardian appointed after June 1, 2015, with no experience as a guardian within the five previous years, you will have six months from the date of the appointment to complete the fundamentals course.  

RULE 66.07. Guardian Continuing Education:
After completing the six-hour fundamentals course, guardians must complete a three hour continuing education every subsequent calendar year as well.
Annual compliance by December 31st of each year, a guardian shall report to each probate division of a court of common pleas from which the guardian receives appointments information documenting compliance with the continuing education requirement

Fundamentals of Adult Guardianship (6 hours)

All guardians are tasked with the extremely important responsibility of making critical decisions for another person, while focusing on protecting and preserving the rights of the individual being served. Ultimately, the result is to provide you, in your role, the information and tools to ensure that your decisions are grounded on the best interests of citizens under your care.

Guardian of the Estate (3 hours)
APRIL 19, 2018                       [8:45AM-12PM] OR [12:45PM -4:00PM]

This course provides guardians of adults with the fundamentals of managing finances and preserving the income and assets of a person under their care.

Introduction to the Developmental Disabilities System (3 hours)
MAY 17, 2018                           [8:45AM-12PM] OR [12:45PM -4:00PM]

Content covered includes instruction on how to recognize the eligibility criteria for available services, dispute resolution techniques, as well as rights and roles of those in the developmental disability system.

Medications and Medical Advocacy (3 hours)
JUNE 21, 2018                         [8:45AM-12PM] OR [12:45PM -4:00PM]

As a guardian, you are called upon to make decisions involving medical care. This course provides information about managing medications, including questions to ask, tools to help you learn about specific drugs, and information on specific classes of drugs.
