In 2001, the Coastal Plan Committee began down a road to complete a vision of making the shoreline the front door versus the back door to visitors and boaters in Lake County. Four years later after much research, fundraising, and beating down many obstacles, The Lake County Coastal Development Plan was developed and prepared by JJR, Inc. from Madison, Wisconsin. JJR, Inc. used the Committee's vision of the Lake Erie shoreline and created a recreational/educational destination for visitors, boaters and Lake County residents into a coastal development engineering plan to present to the coastal communities in Lake County with hopes to encourage economic growth.
The Landside Communities Conceptual Master Plan was prepared for the Committee by the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative of Kent State University and completed in April 2006. This plan provides an overall framework for capitalizing on the development potential of the coastal communities in Eastlake, Mentor-on-the-Lake, Fairport Harbor, Painesville Township, Perry Township, and Madison Township.
The Coastal Plan Committee's mission is:
...to promote recreational and economic opportunities
of the Lake County coast for present
and future generations through funding and planning
strategies in cooperation with the public and private sectors.
