CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

Community Collaborations

 

The Children Services division collaborates with other social service agencies in attempt to reduce the incidents of child abuse and neglect in our community.  These collaborations include:

 

Early Head Start/Child Welfare Services Initiative: collaboration with Crossroads - provides intensive based interventions to infants and toddlers in foster care or protective supervision.

 

Therapeutic Interagency Preschool Program: collaboration with Crossroads and Lake Geauga Headstart - prepares 3-6 year old children identified with identified Child Abuse or Neglect, social, or cognitive risk factors for success in school.

 

Families of Promise: collaboration with Catholic Charities- program facilitates visitation between 5-12 year olds and their parents who are incarcerated and provides re-entry services as parents are released. It also coordinates Big Brothers and Big Sisters services for those children while their parents are incarcerated.

 

Olweous Bullying Program: collaboration with Crossroads - provides Bullying Education Program to teachers and students in schools in order to reduce incidents of bullying behavior in our community.

 

Domestic Violence Counseling: collaboration with Forbes House - provides counseling services to youth who have been identified as witnessing domestic violence in their home.

 

Expansion of Independent Living Program: provides housing, furnishings, and job assistance to children aging out of the system and allows children approaching emancipation to remain in our care to complete their education.

 

Sexual Abuse Consultant: Gerald A. Strom, M.S.W., L.I.S.W., Director of Intensive Weekend Program and Senior Instructor for Case Western Reserve University, Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences provides educational and consultant services to the division regarding sexual abuse protocol and difficult cases.
