The County operates on a January 1 through December 31 fiscal year and must adopt the final budget no later than April 1 of each year. The Commissioners have the power to levy taxes and to approve the placement of tax levies and bond issues on the ballot for consideration by county voters. The Commissioners also administer all federal grant monies.

The Commissioners hold title to all county owned property and are responsible for the upkeep. By law, they must provide office space for all county offices. “Be a Santa to a Senior” is a national campaign sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care that partners with local non-profit and community organizations designed to bring cheer to lonely and needy seniors by providing gifts and human interaction to our respected and admired elders.  This popular holiday campaign has delivered more than 10,000 gifts to local senior citizens and more than 930,000 nationwide.

To participate, holiday shoppers are invited to pick an ornament inscribed with the first name of the recipient from Christmas trees located at participating merchants in Lake County.  Many of the elderly identified to receive gifts are on fixed incomes who request merely simple personal care supplies and may receive no other gifts during the season.  The “Be a Santa to a Senior Program” offers participants the rewards of granting the humble wishes of these valued members of our community and making a positive impact on their lives.
