DOG LICENSES GO ON SALE IN COUNTY
Lake County dog licenses for 2014 go on sale December 1, 2013, according to Edward H. Zupancic, County Auditor.
Due to a change in the law, three-year or permanent licenses are available for your dog(s) in addition to the traditional one-year license.
The registration fee for the one-year license is $15.00; the three-year license is $45.00; and the permanent license is $150.00.
All dogs who have reached 3 months of age must be licensed.
The three-year license and the permanent license can only be purchased in Lake County Auditor’s Office and at the Lake County Dog Shelter between December 1, 2013 and January 31, 2014. Owners should be aware that these longer-term licenses are not refundable in the event of the death of the animal or if the dog is passed to a new owner.
If a license is purchased after January 31, 2014, only the one-year license will be available; and the cost will increase to $30.00 per tag.
The fee for a kennel license is $75.00. If purchased late (after January 31, 2014), the fee will increase to $150.00. The kennel licenses can only be purchased from the Lake County Auditor’s Office and at the Lake County Dog Shelter.
In previous years we sold dog licenses at the Great Lakes Mall; however, we will not be offering this option for the 2014 dog license season.
As a convenience to the public, one year dog licenses may be purchased online at www.doglicenses.us/OH/Lake. Online purchases require an additional fee of $2.00 per license.
Renewal Applications will be mailed starting November 27, 2013. To use this option, the dog owner should mail the appropriate fee and a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Lake County Auditor, 105 Main St. PO Box 490, Painesville, OH 44077-0490. Please make the checks payable to Lorraine Fende, Lake County Treasurer. The owner’s name, address, phone number, and a description of the dog (age, color, breed) must be provided.
For in-person purchases, licenses are always available without a handling fee during regular operating hours at the Auditor’s Office and the Dog Shelter.
As in the past, one-year licenses can be purchased at a cost of $15.75 each at any of the agent sites (see attached table) throughout Lake County.
