THE LAKE 2 CORRIDOR:
State Route 2 is the main artery through Northeast Ohio's Lake County. Because of the direct access to jobs, entertainment, restaurants and more, Lake County residents and businesses alike utilize State Route 2 over neighboring Interstate 90.
The Lake 2 Corridor Modernization Plan and ODOT's nearly $190 million investment will address substandard geometrlcs, noise and drainage issues as well as increase capacity in the region. This plan will modernize State Route 2 with a 35 year pavement design that will not require major maintenance for 22 years.
THE LAKE 2 CORRIDOR: Phase I Modernization
- Modernization of State Route 2 between the Cuyahoga County line and State Route 91
- Includes noise walls between E. 260th Street and State Route 91.
- The contract was awarded to The Shelly Company for an amount of $25,392,234.41.
- Completed fall 2008.
THE LAKE 2 CORRIDOR: Phase II, Modernization & Lane Addition
· Modernization and lane addition on State Route 2 from State Route 91 to State Route 306 in the cities of Eastlake, Willoughby and Mentor.
· The completed pavement will consist of three lanes in both the east and westbound directions.
· Included in this work will be the installation of noise walls on portions of the north side of State Route 2.
· The contract was awarded as a joint venture to both Anthony Allega Cement Contractors Inc. and the Great Lakes Construction Company for an amount of $85,819,416.31.
· On average, about 68,000 vehicles travel this portion of State Route 2 each day. ODOT saved over $10 million on the project by, in part, using the alternate bid pavement selection process. The project originally called for petroleum-based asphalt on this portion of roadway but instead, competitively priced concrete will be used based on the head to head bidding process.
-
Based on FHWA's calculation that $1 billion in construction is equivalent to 27,800 jobs, this portion of the corridor alone will create about 2,400 jobs.
THE LAKE 2 CORRIDOR: Phase III, Modernization & Lane Addition
- Modernization and lane addition on State Route 2 from [Newell Creek State Route 306 to State Route 44.
